The fabric of the garment is hand-made in Uzbekistan from Uzbek silk and cotton and hand-dyed the way it was dyed for centuries. The whole fabric-making process takes 37 steps and is protected by UNESCO.
Because Uzbek ikat is very narrow (only 35-40cm), one garment requires several fabric panels carefully matched together, this is made manually and cannot be mass-produced. That is why each piece is unique.
